Rim Lighting is a technique used in still photography and film using a backlight which completes the classic three-point lighting set up.
The Rim Lighting effect is achieved by placing a light behind the subject, carefully situated so as not to be visible, and adjusted so that it illuminates the edges of the subject, emphasising its shape and visually separating it from the background, highlighting contours.
In my photograph a speedlight was placed to the left of the bride to highlight her arms and shoulder.
